<image:title>Blog - A Different Kind of Luck: The Four-Leaf Clover and the Search for Authentic Self</image:title>
<image:caption>Every year around St. Patrick’s Day, we all collectively agree to believe in luck again. We wear green (or risk getting pinched—because that was somehow a completely acceptable childhood policy), we talk about leprechauns like we didn’t quietly retire that belief sometime around the same era as dial-up internet, and at least one person squints at a patch of grass and confidently says, “I think I found one.” You didn’t. But I respect the commitment.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - The Mineral and the Glow: Our Call to be Salt and Light - Lent is often framed as a season of "giving up"—chocolate, social media, or that third cup of coffee. But if we look at the metaphors Jesus used in the Sermon on the Mount, Lent might actually be about rediscovering what we are made of.</image:title>
<image:caption>When Jesus said, "You are the salt of the earth" and "You are the light of the world" (Matthew 5:13-14), he wasn’t just giving a pep talk. He was describing our fundamental nature. Interestingly, modern neuroscience and mental health research suggest that these metaphors aren't just poetic—they are deeply tied to how we function as human beings. The Spark in Your Cells Right now, inside your brain, there is a quiet, rhythmic miracle happening. To have even a single thought—to feel the warmth of a memory or the pull of hope—your neurons have to fire. They do this through the movement of sodium in our neurons. When the Flavor Fades In the shadows of a long season, we often speak of "burnout" or "numbness"—that hollow space where it feels like the salt has lost its flavor and the light has finally flickered out. But even when you feel most extinguished, your body is carrying a hidden architecture of resilience.</image:caption>

<image:title>Home Page - Welcome to The Antioch Group</image:title>
<image:caption>Many of us at some point in our lives encounter an emotional or relational problem that we can’t just “work out” by ourselves. We find ourselves in a great deal of pain—and we need healing. Healing for a broken relationship, an aching heart, or a lost dream. Healing for painful and poisonous thoughts and ideas. And, sometimes, in order to find that healing, we need the support and guidance of a professional. At The Antioch Group, our Christian world view allows us to work with people from an “open arms” perspective—rather than a perspective of “us versus them.” As a group, we are committed to treating our clients with respect in a quiet, caring, and confidential environment guiding people through the therapy experience as efficiently as possible, without sacrificing the quality of their recovery providing our clients with quality after-care options to maximize their investment and to prevent recurrences</image:caption>

<image:title>Home Page - What our clients say about us:</image:title>
<image:caption>“These sessions have helped bring me to a new understanding of my faith, my past, and my future…so grateful” “I had no idea how helpful and needed these services were to my life. I am a better person today than I was when I started services here.” “I am so grateful for the professional care and empathy shown to me during the therapeutic process…I can’t say enough about the kindness that is shown to people in need…you are truly doing the work of God here” “I have experienced a lot of mental health services throughout my life and no one has even come close to treating me with the respect, dignity, and true love of Jesus as the staff (here) and my therapist. Thank you for treating your patients and their families like real people. God Bless You!” “The Antioch Group has been a safe haven for me. A warm, inviting place to deal with my pain and sorrow. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your care and compassion.”</image:caption>

      <image:title>History/Mission - Our History.</image:title>
<image:caption>In 1996, a small group of us came together out of deep concern for what we saw as a growing “cattle mentality” in mental health care—where people were treated as numbers rather than as unique individuals. Through prayer, thoughtful discussion, and shared vision, we believed there had to be a better way: to create a practice offering highly personalized, state-of-the-art therapy grounded in sound Biblical stewardship and guided by faith. With prayerful conviction, we launched The Antioch Group. What began with just two, then three, then four of us was built on a simple but profound commitment: to care for each person as Christ did—with compassion, respect, and individualized attention. By God’s grace, our practice flourished beyond anything we could have imagined. Today, our team has grown to include over twenty dedicated therapists serving Peoria and surrounding communities. We offer a comprehensive range of psychological services—from psychological testing and trauma therapy to addictions counseling and dispute mediation—supporting individuals and families from ages 3 to 103. Yet even as we’ve grown, we’ve remained steadfast in our founding vision: to see and treat each client as a person, never just a case or a number. Our guiding motto remains unchanged: “It’s not the number; it’s the lives.” We believe these are words to serve by—and they continue to shape every aspect of our work at The Antioch Group.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Clinical Training - Undergraduate Summer Internships.</image:title>
<image:caption>In order to give undergraduate students in psychology and social work a “taste” of the allied mental health professions The Antioch Group offers a 3-month summer internship. Ideal candidates will be between their Junior and Senior years at university when they do the internship. The training consists of three components: Experiential Learning—Sitting in/assisting with clinical endeavors (e.g., psychotherapy sessions, psychological evaluations), interaction with seasoned clinicians during staff meeting, etc., and doing case studies. Didactic Learning—journal articles, books, video instruction and professional seminars will be provided to the intern to read and offer feedback on. Contributory Learning—Projects done to assist the group (e.g., “develop a catalog of our therapy homework assignments”), or members of it (e.g., “do research on PTSD for an upcoming clinician’s TV interview”). Our internship can be designed to meet your learning needs. Many of our past summer interns have taken Independent Study or other university credit. In those cases the intern typically works 15–20 hours per week on a semi-flexible schedule. Those not interested in credit hours from their universities typically spend 10–15 hours per week on site. Since the Summer Internship is an unpaid one we allow a great deal of flexibility on your hours so that summer employment can be procured. The Antioch Group’s Summer Internship has dual aims of offering exposure to clinical work and clinical issues, and of aiding students in the integration of Christian faith and clinical practice. Selection of summer interns is done between September and February of the year preceding the summer of internship (e.g., summer interns for 2023 will be interviewed/selected between September 2022 and February 2023). To apply for a June start date send this information to the attention of Dr. Barbara Toohill: Cover letter indicating your interest and dates of availability in the summer. Unofficial transcript of courses taken at your university, and your grades. Contact information for scheduling an interview at our office. Selection for our internships is competitive, so it is wise to apply as early as you can. For inquiries and questions call (309) 692-6622 or send an email to btoohill@antiochgroup.com.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Clinical Training - Master’s Internships/Post-Doctoral Fellowships.</image:title>
<image:caption>The Antioch Group has partnered with a number of universities in order to provide clinical internships for students completing advanced degrees in counseling or counseling-related fields. Our clinical training program is based around the following components: Direct clinical experience working in a private practice setting with clients of diverse background, age, and presenting concerns Adjunct experience providing counseling services for children in a school setting Group counseling experience through assisting with ongoing therapy groups as well as opportunities to develop a therapy group For doctoral-level interns/graduates, psychological testing is a required component of the clinical training program Weekly clinical supervision with focus and training centered around both adult and marital clinical work as well as specific techniques and methods for working with children, adolescents, and families Opportunities for additional population-specific peer supervision Didactic training Development of increasing leadership skills and independence in learning and navigating the dynamics of working in a group private practice Participation in monthly staff meetings and annual practice planning retreats As is the case with private practice, we are able to offer flexibility in the intern’s schedule, with most interns allocating time for 15-20 clinical hours weekly (doctoral-level students 26+) and 1-2 hours of weekly supervision, with additional indirect hours allowing for record-keeping, treatment planning, etc. The Antioch Group’s clinical training program has dual aims of offering exposure to clinical work and clinical issues, and of aiding students in the integration of Christian faith and clinical practice. Selection of interns is done between September and February of the year preceding the internship (e.g., interns for 2023 will be interviewed/selected between September 2022 and February 2023). To apply for an August start date send this information to the attention of Dr. Barbara Toohill: Cover letter discussing your clinical interests and interest in our organization A copy of your current resume/CV Unofficial transcript of courses taken at your university, and your grades.
